Lucky Joe Was Adopted!
......................March 2013

So often shelters choose to euthanize dogs who have been around for a while. They are getting older. They just don’t appear to be likely adoption candidates. And more dogs, new dogs, come in every day. That might have been the scenario for Lucky Joe who arrived at VHS as a yearling in 2008. But they say that every dog has his day, and Lucky Joe finally got his! After five years of waiting, he was discovered by Anne and Jay Bryant from Seattle Washington. Now he now has the forever home he’s waited for so long. We’re thrilled!

Our volunteer Mary Anne Mather, who wrote this piece in the winter of 2011, always had a soft spot for Lucky Joe. She couldn’t have been happier when she got the call that he’s “going home.”

Aleida and Dr. Pedro Watlington ready to help you and your pets
The Vieques Humane Society site is here to provide you with a place to search for and adopt a new best friend, and to keep you posted on upcoming events and new developments at the shelter.
We are a private non-profit humane agency caring for more than 1,000 animals each year and we rely solely on private donations. We are an open admission shelter with no time limit on hope. The Vieques Humane Society is much more than a shelter...it is a shelter with unconditional love just waiting for you.
We strive to assure a better life for companion animals by providing shelter, veterinary care, finding loving homes, and promoting respect for their place in our lives.
"Begging for Blocks"
We want to build a wall around the Animal Shelter compound so that we can care for young horses without fear of their theft in the night. We need about 2100 cinder blocks to construct the wall. If you have extra blocks please drop them off at the shelter, or contribute to our Wall Building Fund so we can buy them.
VHS Thrift Store - Wed, Thur, Sat 10 til 3
Because of the generosity of Rick Gallup and Honor Stanley, the Vieques Humane Society holds their weekly garage sales in the building that is located just east of the Vieques Air Link office. Because we now have a larger building, we are now welcoming donations of furniture and appliances as well as clothes and household items.
You may drop donations off at the Store during our operating hours - Please do not leave donations outside the building or at the Vieques Humane Society Shelter in Santa Maria.
